When I was a graduate student in the History Department in the Division of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago in 1948, we were taught strict rules of historical method. There was a school of history promoted by the German historian Leopold von Ranke which sought to approach the writing of history as a science. It was an attempt to achieve scientific accuracy in historical reporting. Truth has always been the quest of science. Academic studies have claimed the moral high road. Our universities therefore were then accorded the honor they appeared to deserve as citadels of honest inquiry and truthfulness.

Today, however, according to Thomas Sowell, a senior fellow of the Hoover Institute of Stanford University, and author of Inside American Education, these dispensers of higher education have become the most intolerant institutions in America. In pursuit of their predominantly leftist agenda, our major universities, especially in the areas of the humanities and social sciences, have sacrificed truth and honest, objective inquiry for a successful attainment of their social and political goals. They have even suppressed freedom of speech by imposing politically correct speech codes. A conservative philosophy, particularly in the area of social issues, will almost always find the academic environment very antagonistic and hostile. Instructors who hold conservative viewpoints also will face difficulty in acquiring tenure. One of the most recent and widely known expressions of the sacrifice of truth for the sake of an ideological agenda has been the new national guidelines for writing history texts to be used in the public schools as submitted by Gary Nash from the History department of UCLA. This was the result of a 2 million dollar study commissioned by the federal government’s National Endowment for the Humanities. It has been called “The Hijacking of American History” by U.S. News and World Report’s columnist John Leo. (See November 14, 1994, p. 36 for details.) Rush Limbaugh was somewhat more blunt, stating on his national TV show that these recommendations, which distort the history of our nation, should be “flushed down the toilet.” In spite of being reprimanded by the Senate, who rejected the dissemination of these guidelines by a 99-1 vote, the leftists showed their arrogant disregard of the people’s will. Insisting on their own way, they have already printed at least 10,000 copies of these warped and biased history guidelines and sent them to publishers and schools all at the taxpayers’ expense.

One of the major practices of all leftist-liberal movements is either the suppression or the distortion of truth. This was characteristic of both the National Socialist movement in Germany (Hitler was characterized as an author of the “Big Lie.”) and the International Socialist or Communist movement in Soviet Russia, which was famous for redefining terms and rewriting history to support their system. All ideas were filtered through the party line and shaped to support the agenda of the movement. A polite and popular name given to this phenomena is propaganda or political rhetoric, and it always is a part of any totalitarian system. A realistic and honest assessment of this practice would simply be to call it habitual prevarication or misrepresentation of the truth. This very same practice is alive and well and exercised energetically by the leftist-liberals in America today, which includes some in the executive branch, including our president, not a few liberal congressional leaders and much of the media. We have suffered a blizzard of spoken and written lies in the name of politics.

Leftism must be seen as an extreme form of American liberalism. It is the view of society and politics held by most of the culture elites, who control much of our higher education. The results of their teachings have greatly influenced the media culture, the legal profession, the promoters of the popular culture, the wealthiest foundations, many think-tanks, and a host of radical organizations, such as the ACLU, PAW, NOW, the NEA, and Planned Parenthood. These elites Thomas Sowell has dubbed “The Anointed” because they believe that they have been called to change America into what she ought to be. (The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy, Basic Books, 1995)

At its heart leftism holds a more or less atheistic world view with its roots in the Enlighten-ment of the 18th century, which have been nurtured by the teachings of Marx, Freud, Darwin, Nietzsche, Feuerbach, Sartre, Heidegger, John Dewey, Foucault and many others. The leftists have so internalized their vision for this nation, and perhaps the world, that for them it has taken on a real, self-authenticating existence. This becomes an ultimate form of narcissistic self-deception. What is believed becomes truth to the leftist believer because he feels so strongly about it and is “committed to the cause.” He develops an indifference to external fact. This breeds what any objective observer would define as lying. Others might more politely label it “politics as usual.” This kind of lying obliterates the actual external reality, which a rationalizing introspection has transformed into a new psychic reality. Lying sums up and supports the results of this rationalization, which is offered then as the only truth. The big lie therefore creates a new actuality immersed in a self-oriented autonomy, which is reinforced by many other selfs. (It is true because I or we say so.)

This new leftist orientation is paralleled and supported by a new radically individualistic, untraditional concept of human freedom. Old absolutes are rejected and moral relativism, as a new postulate of the free American society, becomes the new American tradition. This creates a new definition of American liberty, all of it fraudulently based on a lie. Objective truth no longer has any validity or purpose. In fact, the very concept of truth has become suspect. This viewpoint has virtually taken over in the humanities and social sciences of our major universities from whence these “anointed” ideas then filter down into the nation’s public school system.“Nowadays it is best to be wary of movements with large blazing truths in hand and the firm conviction that petty, pesky, literal truth therefore almost doesn’t matter. Our century has seen a lot of this argument--that dishonesty or indifference to truth is justified by one’s commitment to a cause.” (Note John Leo, “True lies vs. total recall,” U.S. News and World Report, August 7, 1995, p. 16 in appendix.)

Leftism by definition is a radical movement, which is not just content to improve a given culture, but is dedicated to changing it into something else altogether. The three historical leftist revolutions were the French in 1789, the Bolshevik revolution in Russia in 1914. and the Nazis in Germany in the 1930’s and 40’s. The culture elite in America today, according to Bill Bennett, hate the original American heritage and tradition, which is based on Judeo-Christian or Biblical values. They have been vigorously working for decades to accomplish what amounts to repaganizing our culture. John Banks, for example, one of the foremost academic spokesmen for multiculturalism, has stated boldly that America must be turned into ”what she ought to be.” Leftists are revising all our traditions in America to suit their own presuppositions and philosophy of life, which is neo-pagan. Whether they realize it or not,American leftist-liberals have embraced a true form of fascism. It is motivated by “the modern world’s nostalgia for paganism” and its antagonism to Western culture and Christian values.

Fascism and communism have been competing systems of socialism--one with a national focus, such as WWII Germany and Italy, and the other international, which characterized the Soviet Union. It is a misinterpretation to regard fascism as conservative and right wing and communism as left wing. In reality both are leftist-liberal movements which seek to revolutionize their respective human societies. (Gene E. Veith, Modern Fascism [St. Louis: Concordia, 1993], p.16) In order to make the revolutionary changes they deem necessary, today’s neo-fascists, of necessity, must keep some continuity with the past. They face an almost impossible task of forging a respectable link with the original heritage and linking it to a rationale which will justify and legitimize their new ideas and social framework. Their effort always results in playing fast and loose with truth and in reinterpreting, rewriting or burying history. They therefore concoct a system based upon half truths, false innuendoes and outright deception. These tactics were all characteristic of the three major leftist revolutions noted above and are also true of what John Whitehead has called the “Second American Revolution” today. This myopic, dangerous philosophy has already left Europe without a moral base and is vigorously and successfully attacking the moral base of the United States of America.

Nowhere is the dishonesty of the leftists more clearly documented than in their handling of American history. Reference has already been made to Gary Nash’s guidelines for textbook and curriculum. The Heritage Foundation in their Education Updates have demonstrated some of this duplicity which has existed for several years. Compare the text of the Mayflower Compact of 1620 as it was actually written with a 1986 text and teaching curriculum published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. Examine the original text and note the alterations;

Original text of the contract: “In the name of God, Amen. We whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread sovereign lord, King James by the grace of God. . . having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith and honor of our king and country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic. . .”

The new leftist influenced version: “We whose names are underwritten, having undertaken a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia, do solemnly and in the presence of one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic. . “

All the references in bold type above have been deleted thus changing the whole spirit and intent of the Compact. This is gross dishonesty and a good example of the lying spirit of the leftist movement. (This example is quoted in Robert Dugan, Stand and Be Counted, Multnomah Books, 1995, pp. 190-191. Those cooperating with modern leftist-liberalism and responsible for the suppression or distortion of truth include most of the media, much of the popular culture, the intellectual elite, including large numbers in both the academic and legal professions, left wing organizations, such as those of the Rainbow coalition, liberal leaders of some mainstream church denominations, and the majority of liberal politicians including even the present president and leaders of the Democratic party. To lie or ignore factual truth has become the popular and accepted custom of the day. In December 1994 Rush Limbaugh in his monthly letter, which is both humorous and profound, predicted what the left would do in the 104th
Congress. He said that they will do “what the left does best: deceive, lie, attack, undercut, obstruct, sabotage--they don’t give a d___ about what’s good, bad, right or wrong. Liberals will do whatever they can to get their power base back.” In April Rush began to document the fact that his prediction had come true. Any objective examination of actual facts in every case and attention to CSPAN and other original sources will confirm his conclusion. They accuse others of that of which they are guilty themselves. They are ideologues, extremists, and dictatorial; so they accuse their detractors of being ideologues, extremists, and dictatorial. They seem to have no scruples, no conscience, and exhibit no semblance of what Plato called “the good man.” They believe their own lies, and they want to win. Whoever shouts the loudest and gets the ear and sympathy of the media is the victor.

II

I have selected only twenty out of the many, many deceptions, half-truths, misconceptions, and outright lies presented by the leftist-liberals in America today. Theirs is an ideological battle, and like the Communists of old, only that which supports their causes can be considered truth. Truth is not objective; it is governed by ideology. Whatever supports their plan and program is truth for them. We are experiencing a maelstrom of mendacity.

1. It is the government’s responsibility to take care of us, or the government owes us a living. Big government (statism) is the answer to all our problems.

This idea that we need the government to be our nanny and take care of us is one of Marxist-socialism’s lies. It is similar to the program of Soviet Communism and creates a huge dictatorial bureaucracy. It is exactly what the Founding Fathers abhorred and sought to avoid in the setting up of a federal government. James Madison said that the powers of the federal government were to be “few and defined.” They have become multifarious and indiscriminate. The idea of federalism meant that the States representing the people granted certain restricted powers to a central government but retained most of the governing power for themselves, which is just the opposite of the philosophy of the leftist-liberalism of the last 50 years. Thomas Jefferson’s famous phrase was “The government that governs best is the government that governs least.” Some conservatives even have succumbed to this philosophy in the name of compassion, or for some other reason, but this idea of the superiority of statism or Big Government will not work any better in America than it did in Soviet Russia, which has become an economic mess. So “anything which can decrease the power of the federal government should be encouraged.”

2. The war on poverty which began with the Great Society has been quite successful.

This was the subject of a recent Public Television special which greatly exaggerated and misrepresented the results of liberal welfare policies begun by President Johnson. In 1965-66 liberals expected to abolish poverty in the United States with an expenditure of at the most 15 to 20 billion dollars. Today the welfare budget has grown to almost 400 billion dollars a year, which is 10% more than we spend on defense. By 1995 after the expenditure of over 5 trillion dollars, the poverty rate in America, as gauged by liberals themselves, has increased from 13% to over 15%. Welfarism as a government administered program has failed in America.

The welfare debacle has created a welfare dependent class, an underclass in America, whom someone has aptly called ”welfare junkies,” destroying individual incentive and initiative, undermining the family, and encouraging illegitimacy. These children become wards of society, being reared by single mothers on welfare without fathers, who have been rendered redundant. These children grow up in a value neutral society and must make up their own rules. This has produced social chaos. So welfarism has destroyed the work ethic and
produced millions of dysfunctional families which in turn have bred violent crime, child poverty, educational decline, multiplying illegitimacies, and more generational family dysfunction. It is the number one over all cause of most of our social pathologies.

The situation today has become desperate. The liberal application of the welfare state is based on a false concept of human nature espoused by secular humanism which rejects moralisms. It teaches that people are not sinners, they are simply products of a destructive environment, in particular economic deprivation. Since most of man’s environment is economic, we just need to “throw money at the problem,” or provide jobs and everything will eventually be all right. Obviously it does not work, but leftists still have faith in this warmed over Marxism, which has produced all the chaos existing today in the Soviet Union. Frankly, this is nuts! Our problems, contrary to the teachings of Karl Marx, are first of all moral, not economic. William Galston, White House domestic-policy advisor recently told a Southern Baptist conference in Knoxville that choices made by young people are crucial to the future of our nation. Of those who choose to graduate from high school, to marry before having children, and to wait until adulthood to have children only 8% wind up in poverty. Of those who fail to make these choices, 79% wind up in poverty. “Government policies can help strengthen families, but not without ‘moral commitments’ by the people.” (National and International Religious Review, March 20, 1995, Vol. 9, No. 7, p.7)

3. Politicians play fast and loose with the truth. Most recently a dozen or more democrats have been unconscionable in affirming together many blatant, easily exposed lies, such as, “Republican welfare policies are draconian and mean-spirited. They want to take food out of the mouths of children.” Also “Republicans are out to cut Medicare and Medicaid so that America’s senior citizens will suffer untold harm. The GOP now stands for ‘Get Old People’” Etc., etc., etc. This is not just “political rhetoric;” these are outright, despicable lies.

First of all, most informed, rational people know that none of these so-called cuts are in fact actual reductions in spending. The proposals are simply to slow the spending down by reducing the projected increases in these programs until the year 2002. This was a principle which President Clinton himself espoused in 1992-93. In Medicare the proposed yearly growth is reduced from 10% to 7.2%; in other words, it continues to grow 7.2% per year, which is more than twice the inflation rate and more than he 6% Hillary Clinton proposed in her Health Plan. Also the new Republican policy is to turn the school food programs and welfare programs, e.g., over to the States to be locally and directly supervised, paid for by block grants from the Federal government, in order to cancel the financial burden of an inefficient federal bureaucracy. This is in no way a cut. For example, the Republican program will spend 4.7 billion dollars or more next year on school lunches in contrast to last year’s 4.5 billion under the Democratic Congress. Since the administrating bureaucracy on the federal level eats up almost half or more of the welfare budget, the 60 billion dollars Republicans hope to save will come out of duplicated and wasteful administrative costs, and from placing welfare recipients in constructive employment. Leftist-liberals hate this concept of local control because it emasculates the power of the central government which has been their power base for 40 years. They do not trust the states or local governments, which is tantamount to saying that they really don’t trust the people. This are just another of scores of misrepresentations or outright lies spread by the new, whimpering minority.

One of the best examples that the leftists are wrong on welfare is the success of the state of Michigan under the dogged leadership of Governor John Engler or Wisconsin’s program under Governor Tommy Thompson. California’s Pete Wilson is just about ready to follow suit in a program suggested by Eloise Anderson formerly from Wisconsin’s successful welfare team. She has called AFDC “government sponsored child abuse” because of its destructive victimization of children.

4. It’s not my fault; I’m a victim of my economic circumstances or my environment.

This is another Marxist lie which produced the debacle of Communism in Soviet Russia, Cuba, Eastern Europe and many other nations. In spite of these contemporary historical object lessons, the leftist-liberals in America still adhere to the premises of a warmed over Marxism. Their stubborn doctrinal dogmatism is maddening.

American leftist-liberals believe that criminals are victims and not entirely responsible for who they are or what they do. Criminals are victims who have been ravaged by an unfavorable environment--poverty, disease, a hostile, criminal community, a broken family or even a genetic predisposition to crime. The guilt is not theirs; it is society’s. We do not owe criminals retribution by punishment; we owe them compassionate understanding and rehabilitation. Therefore the death penalty is wrong. Criminals must be protected from a vengeful society. After all, they have rights too. The looting of stores in the Los Angeles riots, for example, is understandable and perhaps can be considered deserved reparations for past
discrimination, police brutality, or even slavery. Perhaps a PC way to look at it is simply to call the looting “alternative shopping.” Also to avoid deadly conflict, we must take away guns from everybody and make prisons as habitable, benign, and as user friendly as possible--including TV, recreation, school, work out rooms, gyms, air conditioning, and other perks. Recently a U.S. District Judge in California Thelton Henderson reprimanded California officials for the cruel and unusual punishment at a relatively modern prison facility called the Pelican Bay prison. He complained that the prison “reinforces a sense of isolation and detachment from the outside world,” where windowless cells were too far removed from the “usual sights and sounds of everyday life.” I wonder what the judge thinks a prison is for? Maybe a kind of “country club?” Obviously, its not a matter of punishment.

The Biblical answer to criminal behavior is God’s gift of a new heart and a new nature, but teaching this kind of rehabilitation is difficult today in government prisons. On the other hand, the principle of reaping what we sow and instantaneous justice are Biblical and have been part of our American tradition. Ecclesiastes 8:11 says,“Unless punishment for an evil deed is executed speedily, the hearts of the sons of men are determined to do evil.” Thomas Jefferson included this idea in his crime bill--”Bill for Proportioning Crimes and Punishments.” He wrote:“Section XIII. Whenever sentence of death shall have been pronounced against any person for treason or murder, execution thereof shall be done on the next day but one, after such sentence, unless it be Sunday, and then on the Monday following.”American justice used to be much more swift. In contrast to the average of 11 to 13 years on death row it takes for an execution today, thus enriching the lawyers and raping the taxpayers, the assassin of Mayor Cermak in Florida in 1933 was tried, convicted and executed in six weeks.

Taking guns away from citizens is not only unconstitutional, violating the 2nd Amendment, but it mitigates any fear that criminals may have in carrying out their mayhem with impunity. In fact, the criminal class is well aware of the generous philosophy of the liberal-leftists. They support the liberal ticket almost 85% of the time, when they can vote, because many liberals have been their foolish benefactors. In fact, criminals have picked up on “rightsmongering” and are pursuing perks in prison via multitudes of frivolous cases tieing up the dockets in American courts. Leftist-liberals have been creating a fairy tale world.

5. There are some 3,000,000 homeless people in America. Reporter Harold Dow, March 26, 199l, said on the CBS Evening News, “In New York, there are an estimated 70,000 homeless peopoe, 3 million across America. A problem that got a lot worse during the boom times of the 1980’s.”

This lie was repeated over and over again and blame was laid at the feet of Reaganomics, a policy enabling the rich to deprive the poor. When an accurate count was made, however, no more than about 300,000 homeless could be found, and almost all were on the street by choice or because of alcoholism, drug addiction, or mental aberrations. People who were genuinely homeless, mostly young single mothers, usually found shelter and help in a very short time and were not out on the streets for long.

Even today many liberals refuse to face the fact of the moral responsibility of the homeless.They are considered victims of their background or environments and should therefore be subsidized. It has been taught that society owes them a living. So over $32,000,000 of taxpayers money was given last year to alcoholics and drug addicts in the name of disability payments supposedly to help with their rehabilitation, many of the checks being sent to liquor stores. Here the addicts picked them up, paid their liquor bills, and subsidized their addictions. It has been found that only 1% have ever used the opportunity of this financial subsidy to seek rehabilitation. This is a moral problem not an environmental problem. At the least it is in most cases a self-imposed sickness requiring a radical healing program which must begin with the desire to be healed. Liberals have a warped, fairy tale kind of understanding of human nature, and their irresponsible legislation in this area is misguided compassion. Also because of their destructive philosophy of freedom, liberals opened the doors of the mental institu-tions, which resulted in mentally deprived victims having to shift for themselves on the streets. This kind of distorted idealism has pathetic consequences.

6. We say we live in America under the rule of law. The primary law is our Constitution. But the judiciary and the Federal government ignore and violate the Constitution all the time. Many examples can be given of this:
(1) The 10th Amendment reserves to the States and the people all rights not specifically mentioned in the Constitution, but the federal government usurps the rights of States to manage state owned lands, and the animal life on those lands; it imposes environmental controls which have actually taken property from its owners without compensation; it seeks to control what teachers teach and students learn; and whatever can be covered by hook or by crook by the “commerce clause” comes under federal jurisdiction. It is almost a scam.
(2) The 5th amendment says that no man shall be forced to witness against himself, which is regularly violated by the IRS and federal agencies demanding information from individuals, businesses and farms.
(3) The “due process” clause is completely ignored by federal regulators who force individuals into litigation they cannot afford, imposing regulations not voted on and even usurping the “environmental” control of an individual’s private property without compensation.
(4) The 14th amendment has been used to run rough shod over the rights of the States virtually exalting federal control over governors and state legislators and all local government
bodies. This is completely at odds with the intention of the Founding Fathers and also of those who wrote this amendment 128 years ago.
(5) The Federal government supported by the Supreme Court has grossly abused the interstate commerce restrictions to control land, labor, and private rights and increase immensely the authority of the central government over the entire society, usurping local and State rights. And we could go on and on.
In summary, the Federal government has become a “blundering behemoth” which has operated for years without living by the Constitution. One justification for this is that in order to support the leftist-liberal agenda, the legal system in this nation no longer believes or teaches that the Constitution is the law. This is one of the most abominable legal lies ever created. It allows the radical growth of the central government, which, with its sprawling bureaucracies, has grown more and more totalitarian year after year. Today the EPA or OSHA can jail or fine anybody based on rules they have contrived without benefit of the legislature. Liberal jurists have used every legal artifice and manipulation of precedent to advance their leftist social agenda. The judiciary has become a creator of laws and even amendments to the Constitution, usurping the rights of the legislatures and the people. When courts disdain the idea that the Constitution is law they manipulate it like so much silly putty. This is “judicial lawlessness,” an obscene violation of the Constitution itself. Leftist fascism leads to tyranny. It has been happening for years right under our noses. We are the “frog in the kettle.”

7. “The Constitution is what the judges say it is!”

These words of Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes express the arrogance of the judiciary in elevating itself by sophistry to the most important of the three branches of government. This is a recipe for arbitrary power. What happened to a respect for the intentions of the Founding Fathers? They are no secret! The Federalist Papers written by Hamilton, Jay and Madison explain in detail the intent of the Framers of the Constitution. (Note especially #45.) But leftist-liberals want to reinterpret the Constitution to fit their own agenda. This usurpation and virtual cancellation of the check and balance system in our government is part of one of the greatest departures from honesty and truth in the American political sphere. This kind of concentrated power in a judicial oligarchy threatens freedom. Thomas Jefferson recognized this attitude as destructive to the entire new republican system of the Founders. He wrote, “The germ of dissolution of our federal government is in the federal judiciary; an irresponsible body. . . working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief, over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped from the States.” Jefferson’s prophecy has come true.

8. The right of privacy is in the Constitution.

This is a half truth. There are certain specific rights of privacy such as prohibition for unlawful searches and seizures, or the famed 5th Amendment which precludes a person from having to give self-incriminating testimony; however, a general right of privacy does not exist in the Constitution. Justice Harry Blackmun admitted as much but extrapolated the principle anyway when he decided for abortion in Roe v. Wade in 1973. He knew that there was no justification for his decision in the Constitution, and that it was not even a constitutional issue. He believed that abortion should be legalized, however, and so he used the subterfuge of a “constitutional interpretation” to turn his own social conviction into law; and he was applauded and lionized by leftist-liberals. Robert Bork, on the other hand, was condemned by the leftists for believing that we should interpret the Constitution in terms of the intentions of the Founders--the doctrine of original understanding---and not what the liberal judges dream up to support their liberal agenda. He called this latter practice “judicial lawlessness.”

The leftist jurists create their own laws, bypassing the legislature and the will of the majority of the people, and thus negate the very Constitution they are supposed to protect. Their technique--manipulating the truth--a polite euphemism for a big lie. This practice is one of the reasons popular confidence in our American government has been so eroded. “The anointed” do as they please and run roughshod over our American traditions and heritage, violating the principle of popular sovereignty upon which our government was based.

Several examples of the nullification of the will of the people have taken place in the past couple of years: (l) Setting aside the California Proposition 187 restricting aid to illegal immigrants; (2) Nullifying Arizona’s English only law for government transactions; and

(3) Rejecting Colorado’s referendum which precluded homosexuals from having special sexual rights. All are coming before the Supreme Court and fingers are crossed.

9. The school prayer decision Engle v. Vitale (1962) and the abortion decision Roe v. Wade (1973) are Constitutional and the “law of the land.”

Each of these decisions has been declared by the best legal scholars to be in error as Constitutional law, with no real basis for them found in the Constitution. They were made up and are virtually amendments to the Constitution created by the judges without benefit of the legislature or the will of the people. Using the words of Justice Hugo Black, they are really the “law of the judges” and not the “law of the land”. According to the Constitution, only the legislature has the prerogative to create “the law of the land.” Both decisions therefore prevaricate and are not based on truth. They express the will of the minority leftist elite, who have fooled some “fellow travelers” into believing that they are right, but the majority of the American people believe in neither. Neither decision could pass as a bill in the Congress today because 75% of Americans are against unrestricted abortion and in favor of prayer in the schools. The fallout from both of these judicial decisions is a destructive divisiveness in American society and has caused immeasurable damage to our culture.

10. It’s only a fetus or a blob of protoplasm.

It is a nascent human being--a complete baby in miniature with brain waves, heart beat and even fingerprints from at least the time of the 8th week to 10th week. This is a big lie comparable to Hitler’s declaration that Jews and Slavs were subhuman and therefore legitimate objects for annihilation. The medical profession has declared brain waves the criteria for determining life in a comatose body. If they are present and measurable, the human being is assumed to be alive--a living person. How come the same criteria is not applied to human life in the womb? It is because radical feminists and others want their autonomy even at the expense of innocent human life. The Judeo-Christian value system describes these liars and destroyers, “They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.” (Psalm 95:21-23) The warning of the judgment to come is severe.

The true nature of the abortion rights lobby can be seen today in its adamant support of the barbaric partial birth abortions of babies from 5 months to 9 months old in the womb. About 400 p/b ( or D&X) abortions are done each year. About 20% are defective or the mother’s life is in danger, but 80% are elective and the babies are normal. It is without any doubt a form of infanticide or baby murder. (The church father Tertullian called it “quicker murder.”) It was banned in the Congress, but a minority of 44 senators and 139 representatives voted against the ban because of the strength of the abortion rights movement. One of the most wicked acts of President Clinton’s presidency will be when he puts the veto pen to this ban. God help us!

11. A woman has a right to choose what to do with her own body.

This statement falls far short of justifying abortion. What it seeks to imply, first of all, distorts the truth. The baby in the womb is a separate body distinct from the mother. It has its own identity and its own civil rights, which is true for any dependent human being--young, old, ill or disabled. A woman may have certain rights, short of illegal suicide, to do what she may please with her own body, but the life and body in her womb belongs to someone else.

Those who advocate this ethical philosophy that “man belongs to himself and not to society or to family or to anyone else” are now also insisting that suicide is a legitimate right. This is a natural conclusion drawn from a rejection of the existence of absolute or objective truth. It is based on the atheistic existential ethic of a Jean Paul Sartre or a Martin Heidegger, considered by many to be Europe’s leading philosopher of the 20th century. They believed that we create our own ethic as a part of our Being; in other words, we can make up our own rules. Sartre’s philosophy enabled him to suggest that an habitual, violent criminal could in essence be moral. Heidegger’s ethics, which taught that what one could authenticate was the moral, allowed him to become an enthusiastic supporter of Hitler and a member of the Nazi party. He had achieved the high academic office as the Rector of the University of Freiburg in 1933 and was one of the reasons that Hitler could exult, “The universities are ours. We have won.”

The conviction that a man has a completely sovereign right to do what he pleases with his own body, however, has never been a part of our American heritage of liberty, which is Judeo-Christian in its origin, and teaches that man’s freedom is a gift of God, as is his body. Man is to be a responsible steward of these gifts, living freely within the limits of “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.” So do not confuse the concept of freedom inherent in “a woman’s right to choose” with the true tradition of the First Amendment. The unlimited “right to choose” as well as many other so-called “rights” espoused by leftist-liberals have their roots in atheism.

12. There are many kinds of possible families and all are legitimate and equal. To teach that the two parent family is normative or superior is too restrictive and therefore wrong.There may be as many as 14 different kinds of families which can function adequately in human society.

To get rid of the primacy of the two parent family has always been part of the socialist dream. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, said that the most degenerate institution in America is monogamous marriage. Families without fathers are even encouraged by the radical feminists. The destruction of the two parent family ideal has been hailed positively by leftists as part of the new American social revolution. These liberals need to learn some lessons from history. Engels wanted to include a negation of the traditional family in the first Communist Manifesto, but Marx wisely demurred knowing that at that time it wouldn’t sell. After 1914, however, the Soviet Communists made the attempt to restructure the basis of their society without a dependence on the nuclear family, and it failed. Objective sociological studies have shown conclusively what most understand from common sense that children need both a functioning mother and father to realize their full potential. The breakdown in this pattern through divorce and illegitimacy in America is the number one cause of the dysfunctional family, which in turn is the root cause of most of our social pathologies and the disintegration of communities. The nuclear family is the only basis for a healthy, viable human society. Recent sociological studied of divorce are unanimous in their conclusion that the breakup of the family is devastating to children. They suffer from it physically, mentally, educationally and morally all of their lives.

13. Sex is a normal human need which can be practiced as recreation by consenting adults in any manner mutually acceptable to them. Therefore, “to teach abstinence to young people is criminal.”

These final words by Kristine Gebbie, former AIDS coordinator for the Clinton administration are really a logical consequence of the belief that sex is amoral. The monster monument to the lie of sexual promiscuity, promoted by the new morality revolution of the 1960’s, is 1.2 million divorces or more each year, millions of single mother families, and 40% of America’s children living in homes minus a parent--especially a live-in father. 90% of inner city families had live-in fathers in 1960; today about 10% do. This catastrophe is the cause of the dysfunctional family in America which in turn is directly responsible for most of our social pathologies. Current sociological studies support this evaluation. Also note my paper “Reaping the Results of America’s Sexual Revolution.”Sexual promiscuity has not only fostered divorces but it has increased illegitimacy over the past 40 years from 3% to 22% among whites, from 9% to 68% overall among blacks--80% to 89% in the urban ghettos. There must be a change of mind and attitude in America about sex and family and the restoration of the stigma and shame that used to exist regarding illegitimacy, or we will become a permanently fractured, crippled society. It is not an overstatement to say that our entire American civilization is at risk. We have the lowest rate of family formation of any nation in the world. This is an appalling and frightening tragedy!

14. Homosexuality is normal. There may be five genders instead of just two, and all are legitimate. The homosexual lifestyle, therefore, should be accepted and allowed in America and even taught in the schools as an alternative to heterosexual marriage. It should qualify under civil rights laws to be given special anti-discrimination protection.

Homosexuality is an obvious defect, a mental or emotional disability, in the human experiment. It contributes nothing to biological reproduction or future of the society, but must reproduce itself by seduction. The individual homosexual may be a fine and able person, but biologically homosexuality is essentially a parasitic condition, and is usually driven by a strong hypersexuality. As an activist lifestyle it demeans both women and the traditional family which are necessary to the continuation of any healthy society. It is a recognized public health hazard, and practicing homosexuals have a life expectancy only 60% as long as heterosexuals. It contributes to the destruction of any culture where it is encouraged. Because it is not a normal biological condition such as race or gender, it should not qualify for special treatment, but, on the other hand, neither should individual homosexuals be mistreated. There are many laws which already protect them as they do all citizens who are victims of a disability. To recognize or teach homosexuality as a legitimate alternative lifestyle in America would introduce untold confusion and irreparable destruction to our social fabric. Soon the Supreme Court in Hawaii will rule on the legality of same sex marriages. If these unions are judged legal, all states in the USA may have to comply. Recently it came to light that President Clinton favors same sex marriages. We are in danger of embracing Sodom and Gomorrah!

15. AIDS is more of a civil rights concern than it is a public health menace. On the other hand, AIDS can strike anybody. It is no respecter of persons. It is as much a heterosexual as a homosexual disease.

This first viewpoint has forbidden a widespread testing for AIDS, even in hospital emergency rooms or of new born babies, because it was feared that the results of such tests would stigmatize the gay population. Lets face the truth and be honest about this. AIDS should simply be considered a venereal disease like syphilis or any other such syndrome only more lethal. Those who keep God’s rules for human sexual behavior are in little danger of contracting AIDS. The most recent statistics suggest that 51% of AIDS patients are homosexuals, 25% have contracted the HIV virus through drug needles, 8% are from hetero-sexual contact and only 2% are by accident or from blood transfusions, etc.

In Africa AIDS has become a widespread heterosexual disease because of widespread prostitution and careless promiscuity. In America it still remains over 75% a disease of the gay population and IV drug users, although there have been inroads into the heterosexual population because of promiscuity, prostitution and bisexualism. Females are particularly vulnerable because of their greater susceptibility to infection by males. In the beginning the HIV virus was also spread through contaminated blood supplies. AIDS nearly wiped out the hemophiliacs and infected a number of innocent people. These victims are always showcased by the AIDS fundraisers thus distorting the truth.

A converted homosexual told me recently that the gay movement really is not so much interested right now in a cure for AIDS as they are in using the cause to raise money to advance the homosexual agenda. It has been found that a large percentage of the federal money allocated to AIDS goes for this propaganda purpose. Recent testimony before a House committee has indicated that 8,000 gay organizations have access to $3,000,000,000 in AIDS money much of which is used to advance the homosexual cause. The media has ignored the information. The National Education Association has embraced the Gay Rights Agenda and pushed nationally for a gay and lesbian pride month last October. Not without purpose have homosexuals often iterated, “We’ll get your children.”

A misdirected admiration also has prompted a morally bankrupt media to offer undue sympathy and even lionize American athletes, such as Greg Louganis and Magic Johnson, who lost playing Russian roulette with HIV. The Bible says quite frankly, “Men (or women) committed indecent acts with other men (or women), and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” [Romans 1:27b] Some consider the gay agenda the most dangerous movement we face in America. When legitimized and promoted, it is contagious and would greatly compromise our future. It corrupted and weakened ancient Greece, where at least 20% of the male population became participants. It demeans women and undermines the traditional family structure.

16. Truth is relative and morality is relative. Therefore, there are no absolutes.

If there were no absolute rules, the whole universe would fall apart. Is it unreasonable to suppose that the Author of the predictable rules in physics and chemistry, which hold this world together, does not also have some ultimate principles for the healthy functioning of human society? Of course, if there is no Creator, then anything may be permissible. In the words of the ancient Hebrews, however, who believed that they were the custodians ofthe oracles of the Creator, “Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.” (Psalm 119:152)

Our Founding Fathers believed in absolute right and wrong and in Biblical rules for human behavior. They established the American civilization and its institutions on these premises. According to Benjamin Franklin there was not an atheistic or agnostic among the Founding Fathers, and they universally believed in a Biblical or Judeo-Christian system of values and morals. All their decisions were influenced by these beliefs. Of course, to the leftist, for whom Friedrich Nietzsche’s “God is dead” is gospel, anything is permissible and nothing is sacred. To say truth is relative means that there are no certain standards, no universals, no binding commitments. Life has no truth or meaning except what it means to me. This philosophy leads to anarchy which in turn demands the heavy, imposing hand of government. To the communist truth was whatever supported their immediate ideology and agenda. They enforced it from the top down with bureaucrats, secret police, and dictatorships. This is the eventual destiny of leftism.

The Founding Fathers of America, their ideas and beliefs, therefore, are no longer very important to the leftist. This includes all our early American history and the organic utterances and documents of this nation. These are all subject to a dynamic, changing interpretation because leftism holds to a relative truth in an evolving society. They are for all practical purposes expendable, as far as leftist-liberals are concerned; and they will pick and choose and reinterpret the past with impunity. This is true also of all our organic utterances including our national charter the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. But no system of liberty can be erected on relativist assumptions. The trend of this kind of liberalism has always been in the direction of totalitarianism, which we can see even today in our intolerant universities and belligerent government bureaucracies and sometimes even in the recently expressed arrogance of our law enforcement agencies in the Waco and Ruby Ridge incidents. It has also shown itself in recent very official attacks on the religious right and the effort to muzzle talk radio and forbid the political activity, especially the voting guide information, of the Christian Coalition. (The Democratic National Committee and President Clinton are both guilty of these attacks.) Totalitarian systems usually support arbitrary or relativist values so that they can make up their rules as they go along.

17. All different cultures or systems of thought are equal. None is superior to any other.

So we should minimize the American ideal and patriotism and trash western culture as the basis for the education of our youth in America. It is advantageous and moral to promote diversity or multiculturalism and not to try to force any group into a common mold. The American motto E pluribus unum, “out of many, one” is a mythical ideal and should be replaced with an emphasis on a mix of equal, diverse cultures within our nation. This prepares us for the new global environment--a new world order-- which includes a multitude of different peoples, cultures, and beliefs. Patriotism is chauvinistic and divisive and must be discouraged.

The first of the above statements is patently false, which means that all the corollaries drawn from that premise are also untrue. From a purely common sense view, there are values, ideas, and practices which are destructive. Ideas have consequences; evil ideas have evil consequences. Human sacrifice among the Aztecs and wife stealing among many American Indian tribes certainly cannot be equated with the belief in the sanctity of human life or Christian marriage based on love and faithfulness. The despotism of a Genghis Khan is not equivalent to an England of the Magna Carta. A Foucault may prefer a libertine anarchy controlled by social regimentation and dictatorship to the angst of the individual free man, who lives by a binding inner personal code of individual responsibility; but don’t try to persuade most thinking Americans that he is right. Jesus said, “By their fruit you shall know them,” i.e., the righteous. The leftist-liberal movement in America has borne evil, corrupt, and destructive fruit. Witness the social and moral decline of our culture in the last 30 years which has been saturated with their lies.

It is outrageous that some who call themselves scholars would actually try to justify this extreme application of cultural relativism. Even if we would grant a measure of cultural relativism, which is a premise of anthropological studies of human society, each viable culture is found to be a single, functioning, more or less consistent system. To try to include many value systems, and multicultural systems, even languages, on an equal and competing basis within one society is committing national suicide. Academics pushing diversity instead of unity in American culture are courting disaster. There were many diverse peoples who had come to America as new immigrants before and after the turn of the century. There were Polish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Jewish-Americans, German-Americans, etc. Today multiculturalists would divide us into African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, homosexual-Americans, and male vs. female-Americans. Sometime after 1900 President Theodore Roosevelt gave some advice on this subject. He said that there was “no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin. . . would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities.” We are all Americans, period. Look at what has happened to Canada with its two cultures and two languages! Case closed.

18. The Founding Fathers intended to establish a secular state and believed in the absolute separation of church and state as interpreted today by the Supreme Court.

The phrase separation of church and state never appears in the Constitution of the United States. It is to be found, however, in the constitution of the old Soviet Union, and may have had its modern semantic origin there. Thomas Jefferson wrote of a “wall of separation” using the phrase in his letter to the Danbury Baptists to insure them that the Federal government had no constitutional right or intention to create a national state church. Separation of church and state, as it is promoted in its absolute form by the leftists today, however, never even occurred to the framers of the Constitution or the legislatures that passed and adopted the First Amendment. There is overwhelming evidence from history--letters, writings and official documents--that the Founding Fathers intended that Christianity be encouraged and supported and be an influence in both education and politics. This was accepted belief and practice for over 175 years. The House Judiciary Committee in 1854, after studying the history of our origins, declared that if the Founding Fathers had ever thought that the American revolution and the establishment of a free government would result in a war against Christianity, ”they would have strangled the young American nation in its cradle.”

A large number of the Founding Fathers, including Noah Webster, Thomas Jefferson, and even Fisher Ames who wrote the final text of the First Amendment argued for the use of the Bible in the schools to teach basic Christian morality. It was taken for granted that this would include the Ten Commandments upon which our entire social fabric was based in 1776. Prayer was taken for granted in all areas and aspects of life. Both Congress and the President called for prayer many, many times even urging fasting and humiliation for the grace, mercy, and blessing of Almighty God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! How can we permit daily prayers by official chaplains in both the House and the Senate, which were sanctioned by the overwhelming approval of the first Congress, and also even in the Supreme Court, and forbid the recognition of God by a simple prayer in schools? This is madness! The resulting moral relativism and value neutrality taught in the public schools today has opened a vacuum for young people to “do as they please”and “make up their own rules.” The “anything goes” philosophy is bringing disorder and destruction to the educational system in our nation. Traditionally the schools in America were given the responsibility to teach character and to train good citizens. Beginning with the Founding Fathers and until the 1960’s, the source for this teaching was Biblical morality. It is still the single best source.

19. Without any doubt the most fraudulent and deceitful smear campaign of last year’s election were the blatant lies spread by the leftist liberals about so-called “right wing religious extremists.” Groups like the Christian Coalition were pictured as (1) a serious threat to the republic; (2) more dangerous than communists; (3) out to destroy public education; (4) and
trying to impose their values on an unsuspecting American society. The ACLU has called them “haters of liberty.” The People for the American Way try to paint them as bigoted censors of art and literature. Recently Jesse Jackson likened them to the main stream religionists who supported the National Socialists (Nazis) in Germany.

It was not long ago that the religious right were caricatured as low class, ignorant southern red necks, whereas it has been proved that they are a substantial part of main stream, middle America, who have become a potent political force, the foremost grass roots political movement in America today. To tell the truth, for many years the leftists have been the ones who have been imposing on American society a whole new set of their own values--different from the traditional Judeo-Christian American heritage. The values that Christians hold are largely those that were held and believed by the founders of our nation and the framers of the Constitution.

It is the left wing that are the real threat to the original American traditions and therefore to the Republic. In fact, they say forthrightly in so many words that they want to change America into something different, into a “new republic”, which means into their image of a secular society. Most have a Marxist base and so are really akin in many ways in their ideas to totalitarian Communism--in their atheism, their statism, and their dependence upon sprawling federal bureaucracies which inhibit corporate and individual freedoms. On the other hand, they espouse a new kind of individual freedom--a “do as you please”, “anything goes” kind of anarchy which must be curbed by external controls. This is completely foreign to and at odds with the freedom taught by the Founding Fathers, which was viewed as being “endowed by the Creator” and circumscribed by the “laws of nature and of nature’s God.”

The Founders in their system gave us the opportunity to rule ourselves inwardly by character and conscience. This is called self-government, and it requires self-control. It was to be based, therefore, on the internalizing of the moral rules of the Judeo-Christian value system. This would include in summary the Ten Commandments and the teachings of Jesus. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “The precepts of philosophy, and of the Hebrew code, laid hold of actions only. Jesus pushed his scrutinies into the heart of man, erected his tribunal in the region of his thoughts, and purified the waters at the fountain head”

Liberal claims of censorship also are a monstrous hoax. Only 150 books were restricted last year out of over 15,000 school districts, and this was primarily parents taking responsibility for their own children. Leftists criticize the speck in the eye of the traditionalist while bearing a log in their own eye; namely, the support of the greatest censorship of all time, which was the removal of prayer, the Bible and the Ten Commandments from the public schools. By these acts and their teaching of moral relativism and a supposedly values neutral curriculum, they are responsible for a moral decline in America the like of which no nation has seen in history in so short a time. After 30 years of leftist control of our culture, America leads every civilized nation in every social pathology: violent crime, teenage pregnancies, child poverty, divorces, unrestricted abortions, drug use and decline in education. The leftist claims are truly one of the biggest lies of all time rivaling the “outer limit” allegations of Hitler and Stalin.

20. The big lie is used by leftist-liberals in the character assassination of their major opponents like Newt Gingrich. Instead of facing and debating the issues, the favorite tactic has been to call names and to label their opponents with destructive epithets; such as, “bomb-thrower,” “out of control,” “ruthless,” “a moral authoritarian,” “a carnivore,” “voracious,” mean-spirited,” “mean as hell,” guilty of “guttersnipe japery” (Mary McCrory in the Washington Post), and “noxious little butterball” (The New Republic recommended beating Newt to a pulp.). Much of the above name-calling was also carried on by Time Magazine, the New York Times, and National Public Radio. Large numbers of examples of other attacks by the leftists could be culled from the media. (Note extensive data gathered by Brent Bozell’s Media Researc organization.)

Recently much has been made of the fact that Newt Gingrich has a very low rating in the popular opinion polls--about 27%. I wonder why? When 100% of everything published about him is negative in the leftist media, including picturing him as ”Scrooge” and the “Gingrich Who Stole Christmas” on the covers of the two leading news magazines, it doesn’t take a scholar to deduce the reason. However, I heard Newt on CSPAN deliver what I thought was the clearest and most challenging political speech of the decade. We were taught in that historical method class I alluded to in the beginning of this paper always to check the original sources rather than trust secondary reports.

Fortunately today the media’s biased secondary reports can be upstaged by CSPAN and other original sources. Note this comment by the inimitable Rush, “Every attempt that can be made to impugn, to denigrate, to smear, to sidetrack Republicans and conservatives will be made by the left, and the press is helping them out every step along the way. . . There are still plenty of liberals who will do whatever they can to subvert democracy, in order to hold on to whatever power they have. The only way they can subvert democracy is to subvert you, to insult you, to tell you that you’re too stupid to know what’s good for you . . . Look at what is happening in the House of Representatives. Where is the substantive debate?. . .

It’s nothing but one personal assault after another.” (The Limbaugh Letter, March 1995, pp. 3-4, 16) It is obvious to anyone who watches CSPAN that in their desperation the leftist-liberals resort to gutter politics, name-calling and character assassination.

Leftists are also often very short on their respect for democracy and the democratic process. Their agenda always leads to the suppression of truth and the infringements on the personal freedoms of those who actively disagree with their ideas and programs. Radical feminists, to give a current example, were outraged recently when ABC aired a documentary on February 1, 1995 hosted by John Stossel called Boys and Girls are Different. It examined scientific studies of male and female brains which have found a significant difference in biochemical and neurological as well as structural differences. It is a summary of scientific tests and experiments which have been conducted for 15 years and recently confirmed in live MRI images. Common sense would convince the majority that there is certainly a difference between males and females without the benefit of technical scientific proof. Gloria Steinem, Bella Abzug, and Gloria Allred, all activist feminists, however, argued in rebuttal that these kinds of studies should not be made. They were very angry about the results of the research, saying that it was “harmful and dangerous” to young girls. “It is really the remnant of anti-American crazy thinking to do this kind of research,” said Steinem. I will leave it up to the reader to decide who is crazy.

This leftist attitude puts all factual findings in jeopardy. Leftists would sacrifice even scientific enterprises to their ideology and agenda. In other words, truth does not exist except as it advances the leftist program. This speaks volumes for the threat to objectivity in contemporary higher education much of which is controlled by the culture elite. (Note John Leo’s article appended to this paper examining “truth” as it is viewed in American intellectual circles today.) The reader should be alarmed!

III

This plethora of prevarication in our society has its parallel in ancient Israel just before the time of the final captivity and destruction of Judah in 586 B.C. It is recorded by the prophet Jeremiah, who is known as the “weeping prophet” because of his Lamentations for Jerusalem.He quotes God as coming into final judgment with what is left of His people for two reasons: (1) Their society was saturated with falsehood, deceit and deception; and (2) They came to the place where they did not just disobey God, they ignored Him. They refused to acknowledge that He existed or could be a viable part of their society at all. They tore the Ten Commandments off the wall and out of their books.

“. . . they are all adulterers, a crowd of unfaithful people.
They make ready their tongue like a bow, to shoot lies;
It is not by truth that they triumph in the land (are not valiant for truth).
They go from one sin to another; they do not acknowledge me.
Beware of your friends; do not trust your brothers.
For every brother is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer.
Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth.
They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.
You live in the midst of deception; in their deceit
they refuse to acknowledge me,” declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:2b-6)
Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks with deceit. (9:8a)

This is a pretty accurate picture of an important part of American society today. The mindset of academia, the media and the popular culture which are dominated by the culture elite can easily turn to deceit. And in their deceit, they refuse to acknowledge the Creator and His rules for human behavior. They live by the teachings of Friedrich Nietzsche that “God is dead” and “religion is irrelevant.” Their teachings and their convictions are full of lying. They twist the truth. They misrepresent the facts. They subvert reality by either distorting it, confusing it, or ignoring it completely. They deliberately hide or cover up the truth, reporting or acknowledging only that which fits their intellectual system or their political and social agenda. As Jesus said, “They are blind leaders of the blind and both will fall into a pit.”

This environment of lying and refusing to acknowledge God was the condition of Judah just before the major judgment of the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, the end of the monarchy, the loss of their independence and the uprooting and captivity of most of their people. What prophetic word does this pose for the United States of America?

Our Founding Fathers patterned the foundation of our nation in many ways after the principles laid down for the ancient nation of Israel, which existed before the ascent of the monarchy. About 34% of their quotations, according to a recent study by the History department at the University of Houston, were from the Bible; and a large number of these were from Moses’ teachings in the Book of Deuteronomy, a summary of God’s rules for the beginning of the nation. They looked without apology to the Bible and the Ten Commandments for the basic outline for all their institutions, their moral commitment, and for teaching the generations of American citizens to come. (Northwest Ordinance, Article 3) Our educators today have discarded this pattern and wish to foist upon the culture a whole new system planted in the presuppositions and teachings of secular humanism. In reality they are teaching a new religion in the schools of America--he religion of humanism. In order to do this, they have had to saturate the society with lies. The last thirty years loudly proclaim their failure. Under leftist, liberal leadership we now lead all developed nations in every social pathology from dysfunctional families to violent crime. The society is filled with dogmatic falsehoods. Are we better off now under humanist assumptions than we were when the Judeo-Christian ethic was a consensus?

It is the leftist-liberals who have created a mean-spirited, selfish, and destructive system. They must explain the decaying, dangerous environments that the formerly great American cities have become. They must take the blame for thousands of frustrated people imprisoned by the welfare state, who have been robbed of their self-esteem, their capacity for hard work, their character building institutions, their capacity for education, and their lack of moral discipline. They must be held accountable for that Biblically illiterate part of our society which does not even know the traditional American absolute values of family commitment, honesty, education, hard work, deferring gratification, and personal responsibility. They are culpable in the decline and disorder in our criminal justice system and the rise in disrespect for authority and criminal behavior. They must be held responsible for the mushrooming selfism in America, which has turned our cherished ideals of human liberty into a “rightsmongering” libertinism, which resembles the chaotic ideas of the disastrous French Revolution instead of the wise teachings of our Founding Fathers.

As of the writing of this paper, liberal lawmakers are still telling monstrous lies about every conservative legislative effort. It seems that they are afraid to level with the American people because the people have been lied to so long. Now that the conspiracy of silence has been broken regarding things like the exploding costs of entitlement programs, liberals are at a loss to do anything but prevaricate, confuse the issues and obscure the truth.

All America needs to heed the message which Jesus first brought, “Repent!” In a more understandable phrase which is an exact translation of the Greek New Testament word metanoia, “Change your mind.” We need a complete change of mind and attitude in America which includes an unmasking of the deceit and lies. We need a new knowledge, a national revival of commitment to Biblical truth, a renewed allegiance to the rules of God for human behavior. The pagan of old in Pilate’s word, foreshadowing the neo-pagan of our day, says sarcastically in unbelief, “What is truth?” Jesus said, “I am the truth.” We need a renewed understanding, not a caricature, of what our Founding Fathers really meant by human rights and liberty--a freedom with responsibility which is viewed as being “endowed by the Creator” and circumscribed by the ”laws of nature and of nature’s God.”

If what some have called another Second American Revolution under the new conservative leadership in our nation fails to bring radical change not only in the economic but also in the social and moral fabric of our society, the days of our prosperity, success, and leadership in the world are surely numbered. We are at the crossroads, on the brink, on the edge, and in the valley of decision. It is no time for the faint-hearted. Without boldness and risk-taking and a
willingness to stand up to the elite and to the imposing phalanx of the leftist-liberal power-mongers and their torrential rain of deceitful, lying propaganda and fraudulent political rhetoric, we will fail to rescue our country from certain demise in power, prestige, status, prosperity, success and respect in the family of nations. We will also lose our God-given liberties as we gradually revert to the practices and ideals of neo-paganism.

Epilogue

Truth is the characteristic of a redeemed nation: “The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will speak no lies, nor will deceit be found in their mouths.” The prophet Zephaniah 3:13 (ca. 625 B.C.)

The Old Testament law: “Do not spread false reports.” Exodus 23:1; “Do not lie; do not deceive one another.” Leviticus 19:11; “Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.” Psalm 31:18; “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue. . .” Proverbs 6:16; “O you deceitful tongue! Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin.” Psalm 52:4-5

Teaching from the New Testament: “You belong to your father the devil and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Words of Jesus recorded in John 8:44; “Put off falsehood and speak truth-fully. . . Do not lie to each other.” Letters of Paul, Ephesians 4:25 and Colossians 3:9; “. . all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” John’s Apocalypse or Revelation 21:8.

Thomas Jefferson’s reflections on America’s shortcomings and the future: “Religion is deemed in other countries incompatible with good government and yet proved by our experience to be its best support. . . And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; and that his justice cannot sleep forever.” Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781

Thomas Jefferson proposed that the American seal portray Moses leading the Israelites into the promised land. He explained this in his 2nd Inaugural Address: “I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life, who has covered our infancy with His providence and our riper years with His wisdom and power.”

Leftist-liberals who are moral relativists may have little conscience when it comes to telling the truth; in fact some are themselves habitual liars. For example, the German Nazi existentialist philosopher Martin Heidegger’s mistress, who was the famous Jewish writer Hannah Arendt, once described Heidegger as a man who “lies notoriously always and everywhere, and whenever he can.” (Quoted in The Nation, October 9, 1995, pp. 392-93). This could be said of many.
