My 50th Anniversary Lesson Just this past month of August, we had our family celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. Our actual wedding date is the day after Christmas, December 26th (what a load that was for our families back then!) But it was important to us to have all of our children and grandchildren at Ferndale this summer during the good weather, not the unpredictable winter. We were so grateful to God that the warm sunshine and being together turned out even more beautiful than we could have dreamed. |

| I turned out to be the only problem! I got all my daughters and granddaughters together and used what had just happened to me as an example of what not to do. Two weeks before everyone came, I had barely recovered from severe bronchitis and a fever. I had wanted to bake my bread for Jims cousin and sister and their spouses who were coming to visit. Jim said he thought I was still too weak from being sick and that I shouldnt attempt it. But while he was still sleeping, I tiptoed down the stairs to get started. As I stood there, I felt the blood drain out of my head and before I knew it, I had passed out, my knees buckling and hitting my head on the countertop. I dont know how long it was before Bevi discovered me and got Jim to help me up. The x-ray showed a compressed vertebrae in my back, and the hematoma was the size of a hamburger bun on my head. Everyone was so helpful and treated me so lovingly as I recovered from a walker to now a cane. But I did warn my girls, both generations, to please honor their husbands and the Lord by listening to their advice! They do love us! Imagine still having to learn this even after 50 years of marriage! Former Thoughts: |
